Green Tech Investments Fell in Q1

Global venture capital investments in green technologies for the first quarter of this year dipped to $1.07 billion from $1.50 billion in the previous quarter and $2.14 billion in the first quarter of 2012, according to the Cleantech Group on Friday.

The decline underscores investors’ uncertainty — or downright pessimism — about whether they could earn good returns from putting money into areas such as renewable energy, low-carbon transportation and biofuel. That raises at least two big questions: will many promising technologies go without funding in the near term and when will we see a change of the current sentiment?
